I spent quite some time last year writing many DHGate reviews for various article sites, promoting a website that I'd built – hopefully to help consumers make an informed choice about whether or not to buy from the popular marketplace of Chinese wholesalers, manufacturers and drop shippers.
In this post, I'm going to summarise my previous reviews – there are only a few key points for and against buying on DHGate and they are straightforward enough to only take up a few paragraphs.
DHGate – The Good Parts
DHGate has a really wide range of products – in all the main categories that you would expect from sites like Amazon or eBay. However, with DHGate the prices are much lower in most cases – and that's the other key benefit of the site: it's really cheap.
The Bad News
The problem with DHGate.com is the same as with most other Chinese wholesaler marketplaces, including it's main rival Ali Express.
Delivery to the United States and Europe frequently takes a month or more – which is far too long for a drop shipper. Most customers in the United States are used to next day (or at least same week) delivery, and will not be happy to wait for as much as a month. It's not so much of a problem if you are buying in bulk, but drop shipping with a supplier on DHGate is going to cause some problems for your store.
